BEST PRACTICES (2023-24)

Development of Scientific attitude

Goal: Sanmati Govt. College of Science Education and Research. Jagraon was established in 1968 with a mission to impart quality Science Education to the semi urban youth. To realize our mission, we have started this practice of inviting renowned personalities/scientists in the college to nurture scientific attitude in the students of the college and orienting them towards research. To provide opportunities, explore avenues of research develop research related-skills; provide global- exposure.
Context :As our college caters to the needs of the semi-urban youth, this practice was highly desired. The semi-urban youth need exposure to the outer modern global world. Feeling the need to provide them opportunities where they can get a chance to upgrade their knowledge and to inspire them by interacting with the renowned personalities from the prestigious institutions, this practice was initiated under the able guidance of the director. This practice facilitates their academic growth and acquaints them with the latest concepts, upgrades their knowledge, provides Global exposure, inspires positive interaction with renowned personalities, facilitates academic growth, acquaints concepts in scientific world.
Practice :Various personalities from different fields are invited in the college who enlighten the students with their knowledge and experience. The students are also taken to research institutes for practical demonstrations and to expose them to the variety of techniques being used in these institutes The interdisciplinary approach to be adopted by all departments. Seminar on “Aids and Organ donation awarness, and Seminar on “Solid waste management” by Raminder Kaur, PMI DC, Panjab municipal co-corporation. Workshop on “Cyber Security” by Manmohan Singh Chahal, Director, motoweb solution center head, Jagraon. Workshop on “Biodata writing and inter-view skills” by Prof. Dr. Sumit Brar. Visit to AP refinery of students were organised. 10-days workshop on “vocationalization and skill development scheme”. Seminar, poster making and presentation competition on “Swadeshi techniques for Viksit Bharat” was organised. Visit to IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Barnala by students.
Evidence of success: Students showed increased-interest& interaction with visiting-experts, a number-of-students are now pursuing PhD, higher-studies/Research. Our Alumni is also employed in schools & are promoting scientific-temperament in semi-urban/rural-area.
Problems Encountered & resources Required: College is managed by grants from funding agencies like UGC-RUSA-Statecouncil-DBT-PTA.

Women-Empowerment

Objectives: College ensures every effort to encourage/empower ;provide-safe/congenial-atmosphere

Context :Staff makes efforts to prepare-Girl-students for facing challenges, create awareness on rights, privileges, identity, address problems, provide counselling, eradicate evils, Dowry-system and Female-Foeticide.

Context :Women-Forum was established with aim of empowering girl-students/female-teachers. The college has also established a Sexual harassment prevention cell and Beti bacchao, Beti Pdhao committee. Lectures by dignitaries, are conducted in the college to motivate the students to rise in life. Workshop on “Gender sensitization” was conducted on 26 july 2023. Teej festival was organised to induce the art of self-expression in girls. Seminar on “good health and mind” was organised to develop positive attitude among the girl students. Seminar on “Career guidance for girls” to make them financially independent. Seven-day workshop on “Methods of Self-Défense” was organised to ensure the safety of girls. International Women’s Day was celebrated on 8th march 2024 and poster making and speech competitions were organised. Girls participated in various items of Zonal Youth and heritage festival.
Evidences of Success: Increase in confidence was observed. Girls became aware of rights, discussed problems; were provided with guidance. Our girl student Jobanpreet Kaur (B.Sc. I yr Sem 2nd) secured 9th position, Jaspal Kaur (M.Sc. I yr Sem 2nd) got 1st position in Panjab university, Chandigarh. Jasnoor Kaur (B.Sc. III) was selected as “Queen of Teej”. Jasmeen Kaur was declared as best athlete. Additionally, seven girl students got prize in different.
Problems Encountered and Resources Required :The PTA & other funds were used to organise programmes for upliftment of girls.
